2024 Junior State Championships Teams Announcement 

Hockey Victoria is delighted to announce the 2024 Under 12, Under 14 and Under 16 Zone teams to participate in the Junior State Championships (JSC) following the trials on Sunday 21st April.  

It is wonderful to see such interest in the Under 12 Hockey5s again, after successfully introducing it in 2023. There have been twenty-five teams selected in this age group, with some Zones again having sufficient interest to select more than one team per gender. There will be a total of 61 teams competing in the JSC in July across the Under 12s, Under 14s and Under 16s.  

A big thank you must go to all the Zone Coordinators, coaches and selectors that made the trials possible over the weekend. It is a huge undertaking and your efforts are greatly appreciated.  

Event Details: 

Under 12 Boys & Girls (Hockey 5’s) – Wednesday 3rd & Thursday 4th July – Shepparton Hockey Centre 

Under 14 & Under 16 Boys – Friday 5th – Sunday 7th July – Bendigo Hockey Centre 

Under 14 & Under 16 Girls – Friday 5th – Sunday 7th July – Shepparton Hockey Centre 

Congratulations to all selected players: 

Uniforms – DEADLINE 9AM MONDAY 6TH MAY 

Within the next 48 hours, all selected players will receive an email with a link to their Zone webbook which contains a range of important information. This will be sent to the email addresses listed on the player’s nomination (which may be the child’s email address).  

The most pressing item is to ensure that you order all necessary uniform by 9.00am Monday 6th May. Please refer to the email that contains the link to your Zone webbook as that has a lot of important information in it about uniforms.   

Hockey Victoria and GAME do not hold any spare stock, so you must meet this deadline. The link to order uniform is included within your Zone webbook which you will be sent.

Interested in filling a vacancy in another Zone?  

If you have been unsuccessful in achieving selection on this occasion, but would still like to participate in the Event, there may be an opportunity to do so with another Zone.

We ask that you carefully read all the information outlined on the expression of interest page before making a submission. Two key points are as follows: 

• Do not contact Zone Coordinators directly regarding vacancies in their teams. Only those that submit their interest through this link will be considered.  

• Please note that submitting an EOI does not guarantee you a position as limited opportunities exist. It is highly unlikely that there will be opportunities with metro teams, so please consider listing regional zones when asked to provide your preferences. If you would like to know where the Regional Zones are located, please click here and then look under the heading “which Zone do I nominate for?” It will then list all the clubs/associations that sit within each Zone and that provides and indication of where training may be.  

The below table outlines where there may be vacancies across Under 12 – Under 16 Teams.  

Under 18 Junior State Championships 

The Under 18 JSC will take place from 20th – 22nd September at Bendigo Hockey Centre.  

For the Zones that are yet to select their Under 18 teams, the nominations remain open through until 5.00pm Wednesday 10th July and the trials will take place on Sunday 14th July.

Important information for Under 16 Athletes trialling for Under 18 State Teams 

• With the Under 18 State Team Final Player Assessments taking place on 8th and 12th May, there may be cases where a participant is selected in an Under 16 JSC team and then end up being selected in one of the Under 18 State or Development teams too. 

• In this instance, the participant will be automatically withdrawn from the Under 16 JSC team (as the JSC clashes with Under 18 Nationals). The next best available player from the trials will come into the JSC team to replace the participant that has to be withdrawn. 

• If there are any athletes that are in an Under 16 JSC team that are selected as a train-on for the Under 18 State Team, they will be given the option to remain in their Under 16 JSC team if they wish to. If they do not get called into one of the Under 18 teams, they can then participate in the Under 16 JSC.  

• Any participant that is under 16 and is selected in the Under 18 State or Development team will then be permitted to participate in the Under 18 JSC in late September if the wish to. As they have been selected in an Under 18 State or Development team they would be granted automatic selection into their Under 18 JSC team for the event to run later in the year. If they do not wish to participate in the Under 18 JSC, they will be given the option to opt out.
