Published Wed 15 Jun 2022

Congratulations to all the teams that took place in the 2022 Grassports Senior Country Championships over the weekend.

It was wonderful to have the Event back again this year and it was played in a wonderful spirit by all teams. Below is a summary of the winners of each division:

Men’s A Grade

Hockey Geelong went through the pool stage of the tournament undefeated with a goal difference of 20 and were able to continue that strong form into the Gold Medal Match with a 5-1 victory. Congratulations to both Hockey Geelong and the runner’s up Hockey Central Vic.

Men’s B Grade

In Men’s B Grade, Hockey Ballarat and Hockey Central Vic went head-to-head. It was a high scoring match, but Hockey Ballarat were able to take home the Gold Medal with a 5-2 victory., while Hockey Central Vic took home the silver medal.

Men’s Masters

Hockey Ballarat (Red) had a wonderful tournament, going through undefeated and then sealing the Gold Medal with a 7-1 victory in the final. Special mention to the runners up Goulburn Valley Hockey Association.

Women’s A Grade

After drawing when they met in the pool stages of the Event, Hockey Geelong and Hockey Albury Wodonga could only be separated by goal difference heading into the Gold Medal Match. It proved to be a close affair early, but Hockey Geelong were able to prevail 4-1 and take home the Gold Medal.

Women’s B Grade

Sunraysia and Latrobe Valley went head-to-head in the Women’s B Grade Gold Medal Match. When they met in the Pool stages it was Sunraysia who ran away 3-0 winners. In the final, they were able to prevail 5-0 and take home the Gold Medal, while Latrobe Valley secured the silver medal.

Women’s C Grade/Masters

Hockey Ballarat and Hockey Geelong met twice during the pool stages and they secured a victory each in those matches, so it set up an exciting final.
