Week 6 Indoor Club Champs Wrap-up

Week 6, the final week, of the Indoor Club Championships & Junior Indoor Challenge commenced on Friday night with Under 12 Mixed & 35+ Women’s Masters, and the brand-new Under 12 Girls.
Under 12 Mixed
With a total of 7 teams participating in the inaugural Under 12 ICC event, there was a total of 19 matches played across the weekend at SSC Parkville and Monash University with a whopping 156 goals scored. The leading goal scorer going to Chloe Agius from Footscray Hockey Club Hockey with 18 goals.
The top team from Pool C progressed straight to the grand final being Waverley Hockey Club. Whilst the other top 5 teams from Pool C progressed into the Semi-Final matches. SF1 saw it was Footscray Hockey Club v KBH Brumbies Hockey Club and PEGS Hockey Club v Essendon Hockey in SF2. That left Camberwell Hockey Club and Hawthorn Hockey Club to play an extra classification match to determine 6th and 7th positions.
In SF1, KBH got past Footscray 4-1, and PEGS defeating Essendon 7-3.
It was a goal fest in the 3rd place playoff, where the final result would end in a 5 all draw. Footscray’s Chloe Agius scored 4 goals whilst Flynn Clenick got the final one; whilst Patrick Bairstow, Sophie Dixon and Bailey Wright scored on goal each for PEGS and Isaac Chamberlain scored a double!
In the Grand Final, a cross-pool battle saw Waverley take on KBH. The match started off very strong with KBH showing their class and scoring a beautiful team goal very early on in the first half. KBH would end up running away with the game whilst Waverley tried to fight back too late. KBH’s Sebastian Feruglio scoring 4 goals in the grand finale with Ned Weatherburn-Gregg scoring two more for the team; Waverley’s Tom Guastella, Shivaa Ramasamy and Ryan Wu scoring one goal each saw become the inaugural Under 12 Indoor Club Champions.
The final standings were as follows:

· 1st – KBH Brumbies
· 2nd – Waverley
· 3rd – Footscray
· 4th – PEGS
· 5th – Essendon
· 6th – Hawthorn
· 7th - Camberwell
35+ Women’s Masters
With 8 teams participating, there was a total of 20 matches played across the two days with 88 goals scored, and the leading goal scorer going to Erica Trahar from Essendon Hockey, with 9 goals.
After each team played 3 initial matches in their pools, they then played in a number of classifications matches to determine the final standings.
In the 5th place play-off, TEM 1 narrowly escaped victory with a 3-2 win against Footscray Red. In the 7th place play-off, Footscray Blue ended up drawing one all with TEM 2 to finish 7th.
In the 3rd place playoff, Hawthorn faced off against PEGS. The first time they played off in the pool matches; PEGS took the win 4-3. The 3rd place playoff would end in the same style with PEGS winning 3-2.
The Grand Final match was another amazing spectacle. Brunswick put forward their best team and best performance from the event however a very strong performance from a dominate Essendon saw a 5-0 win naming them Champions of the second Women’s Masters ICC. Goals to Essendon’s Rachael Ferguson and Erica Trahar scoring two goals each with Anna Huston scoring the single.

Under 12 Girls
The first time we have held an Under 12 Girls ICC saw a total of 5 teams participating with a total of 14 matches played across the weekend at SSC Parkville and Monash University. There were 69 goals scored across the weekend with Brunswick Hockey Club’sGabriella Soysa being named lead goal scorer with 10 goals.
The top team from Pool C progressed straight to the grand final being Essendon Hockey. Whilst the other top 5 teams from Pool C progressed into the Semi-Final matches. SF1 saw it was Brunswick Hockey Club v Footscray Hockey Club and Waverley Hockey Club v KBH Brumbies Hockey Club in SF2.
In SF1, Brunswick beat Footscray 5-1, and KBH defeated Waverley in a close 2-0.
A super close 3rd place playoff, saw only one goal scored. With no many penalty corners, no personal penalties but a fierce game with a great crowd, KBH’s Aisha Tauro scored the game winner!
In the Grand Final, Essendon took on an inform Brunswick. The match started slow but quickly shifted gears with the support of a premiership winning Essendon 35+ Women’s Masters team cheering on the sideline. Essendon would end up taking full advantage of the additional support crew and showing a dominate performance by winning the game 3-0. Essendon’s Polly Beaumont, Bridget Cruz, and Charlotte Fitzgerald all scored one goal each to crown the team the first Premiers of the Under 12 Girls Indoor Club Championship!
