HV and Scope score with inclusive Hockey program

In a commitment to inclusivity and recognising the transformative power of sport, Hockey Victoria teamed up with Scope to develop and deliver an accessible Hockey program.

Following a successful pilot at Footscray Hockey Club in 2023, the program kicked off in Term 1, 2024, welcoming 35 participants from Scope to the State Netball and Hockey Centre for six weeks of modified indoor hockey.

Participants used adaptive equipment like bell balls and street hockey sticks attached to wheelchairs, playing a fun and inclusive version of 8-a-side hockey. Hockey Victoria's Game Development team collaborated closely with Scope coordinators, support carers, and their own Participation Officers to create a supportive and encouraging environment for everyone to participate.

The program fostered fierce competition and joyous moments, with both ambulant and wheelchair-bound players taking to the court with enthusiasm.

"It was a true privilege to partner with Scope and witness their incredible work in empowering people with disabilities to connect with each other and the broader community," said Amy Welsh from Hockey Victoria. "We're excited to bring this program back for Term 4, 2024."
