Hockey Victoria is a proudly diverse organisation, who actively celebrates LGBTIQ+ diversity, inclusion, and pride in Victorian Hockey through the previously much-loved Fair Go, Sport initiatives with the Victorian Equal Opportunities and Human Rights Commission, and more recently our annual Pride Cup Round with Pride Cup Australia.

HV recognises the importance of engaging a diverse community in growing participation, as well as valuing inclusivity and understanding the social responsibilities sport has in providing opportunities for all. We are committed to changing attitudes, promoting positive language, and policies that contribute to ensuring LGBTIQ+ people feel welcome, comfortable, and recognised in today’s game. Hockey Victoria has zero-tolerance for any form of bullying, harassment, and/or vilification towards people with diverse sexuality and/or genders. This includes forms of homophobia, biphobia, and/or transphobia.

How to report homophobic, biphobic and transphobic behaviour?

Hockey Victoria supports Hockey Australia's Guidelines for the Inclusion of Transgender and Gender Diverse People in Community Hockey and any breach of this policy shall be dealt with in accordance with the Hockey Australia Complaints and Disputes Policy.

-For incidents that occur on game day, or at a Hockey event please lodge an incident report which can be found here on our disciplinary page.

-For any club concerns, Hockey Victoria encourages you to follow your club’s grievance procedure and/or contact your club’s grievance officer or Member Protection Information Officer (MPIO) to discuss the incident confidentiality. 

Each year in early February Hockey Victoria hosts the annual Stand Out Cup event!

The Stand Out Cup (SOC) is an annual pre-season social event designed to celebrate diversity and inclusivity in hockey and make a stand against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia in our sport. Since its creation in 2015, the event has grown significantly and provided a crucial platform to raise funds and awareness for Proud 2 Play, a not-for-profit organisation that provide essential support to LGBTIQ+ community members.

SOC is the perfect family-friendly event for current and new hockey members, allies, and rainbow people to come and show their support for the LGBTIQ+ community while participating in fun, modified and social hockey matches.

Each year Hockey Victoria partners with Pride Cup to host a Pride Round to help our hockey community be a safe, welcoming, and inclusive place for all LGBTIQ+ current and prospective members. During this time we encourage all affiliates who are looking to provide extra resources and education to there members to sign up to Pride Cups education sessions which aim to explore and tackle the current climate and attitudes towards LGBTI+ inclusion within Australian community sporting clubs and equip your club with the tools to challenge discrimination.

Hockey Victoria participated in the national Pride in Sport Index and was awarded PSI 2022, Gold Sport (highest award).

The Pride in Sport Index is an initiative of the Australian Human Rights Commission and Sport Australia.

The Pride in Sport Index™ (PSI) is the first and only benchmarking instrument specifically designed to assess the inclusion of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex (LGBTI) people within Australian sport and sporting organisations. Participating in the index allows Australian sporting organisations to not only assess their own practice but determine which constitutes good practice, along with the ability to benchmark their own initiatives against an external measure and other sporting organisations.

This service provider provides confidential support for LGBTIQA+ identifying people and those who have questions or concerns about LGBTIQA+ issues. Switchboard also welcomes contact from people who may not be LGBTIQA+ but who want to talk about someone else they care about. This includes families, friends, coaches, peers, and co-workers of LGBTIQA+ people.
