Coach the Coach - Register for 2010

The Coach the Coach program provides clubs with the opportunity of training your Clubs Junior Head Coach and identified junior coaches  who will then have the capacity to pass on the model and specialist knowledge to the rest of the club’s junior coaching staff.

The program aims to produce coaching disciples who will spread the word and set in place fundamental coaching systems that will bear fruits for juniors in the future. In this two hour session Hockey Victoria’s Coaching Director-Jim Irvine implements a tried and tested model which uses a Game Sense Approach.

This approach uses actual game situations as the focus of practice sessions with the aim of teaching players how to become more tactically aware and make better decisions during the game. Irvine will teach his subjects how to think about the game strategically and how to develop skills within an enjoyable environment.

Above all, the Game Sense Approach will teach players how to gain a better understanding of the game being played.With small groups tailored to suit the group’s ability, the program’s objective will be to have more coaches teaching a model that develops a player’s skill, awareness and decision making in a game context.

To be part of Coach the Coach program, clubs must nominate one Junior Head Coach who will undertake the program.

Clinic Details:

What: 1 x 2hr Practical Clinic.

Who: Club Junior Head Coach  and identified junior coaches

Participants:An option of including 6 (only) junior club players aged 10-13 to help demonstrate the model is recommended

When:Sunday mornings, Monday evenings or Wednesday evenings (or a time to be negotiated)- NOW

Where:Venue dependent on the number of people and locations of applicants

Cost: FREE

How:Complete Registration Form and return to Hockey Victoria Development Manager. Upon receipt of registration Jim Irvine will contact you directly to arrange a suitable time and venue.
