Hockey Victoria is proud to congratulate the achievements of four young hockey players who were recognised at the 2009 Victorian School Sport Awards.

Ben Hartung, Hockey Victoria CEO attended the Presentation Ceremony held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Friday 12 March 2010 and was thrilled to see the hockey players presented with their awards.

“Hockey Victoria would like to congratulate Aaron Cockram (Doncaster), James Knee (Waverley), Tegan Purser (Altona) and Caitlin Philpott (Camberwell) on being awarded the 2009 Victorian School Sport Sporting Blue Award, which is the highest sporting accolade in Victoria’s government school system.

A total of 44 students were awarded the Sporting Blue in recognition of their outstanding achievement in their chosen sport and it is excellent that the hockey achievements of these four talented individuals has been recognised”

James Knee, Tegan Purser, Aaron Cockram and Caitlin Philpott flew the flag for hockey and celebrated among a host of other sports.

The awards are organised by the Victorian Government Department of Education and Early Childhood Development and attracted a number of high profile guests including the Honourable Bronwyn Pike MP and CEOs of State Sporting Organisations.

Victorian Vixen Sharelle McMahon and Track & Fielder Jeff Riseley presented the awards to the four young Victorians.

James Knee – McKinnon SC
Award: Hockey
Achievements:
- Southern Sharks captain, runners up in Junior State Championships
- U15 State Team captain
- Member of the U16 Indoor State Team
- College intermediate boys’ team captain

Tegan Purser – Western Heights College
Award: Hockey
Achievements:
- Selected for Hockey Australia’s (U18) training camp
- VIS junior development squad member
- Awarded ‘Best Player’ at the State (U17)competition
- State (U21) team member and State (U18) team captain

Aaron Cockram – Park Orchards Primary School
Award: Hockey
Achievements:
- 2009 (U12) Vic Hockey Team member, National Schools Championships
- Top performance with the VPSSA championship boys’ hockey team
- Victorian Hockey (U11) Development Squad team member

Caitlin Philpott – Canterbury Primary School
Award: Hockey
Achievements:
- Member of Camberwell HC’s ‘A’ team for three consecutive years
- Regional representative and member of the (U13) Eastern Hotshots at the State Championships
- Top performer and runner-up, VPSSA (U12) girls’ hockey team
