Victorian U21 Indoor Men wrap up

16.12.09

The Victorian Under 21 Men’s State Indoor Hockey Team has finished second in the 2009 Australian Indoor Hockey Championships held in Adelaide.

The Victorian’s were beaten in a very tight and competitive Final 1-0 by New South Wales. This was a great achievement by a very young Victorian Team, with all players still available to play next year. It was also the first time in twelve years that the Victorian Under 21 Men’s Indoor Team has made the Final.

Both teams defended well limiting the scoring opportunities for the entire match. Victoria managed to work the ball into the New South Wales circle a number of times in well-constructed passages of play, but unfortunately were unable to capitalise on their chances. It wasn’t until the final three-minutes in the game when New South Wales managed to guide the ball through a congested Victorian circle to find the net and the match-winning goal.

After the round matches Victoria finished in top spot, with four wins and one loss and the best for and against statistics.
