Hockey Victoria Development Strategy

By: Hockey Victoria

07.08.09

Hockey Victoria (HV) has announced its new hockey development strategy.  The new strategy aims to provide all clubs, associations and players with consistency for all development programs, events and member development.

The new strategy and associated Zones also provide HV with an opportunity to streamline its energies in all Zones and include development of coaches, umpires and players.

The new Development Strategy is about developing members as well as players through our game of hockey. Communication between clubs / associations with HV will be improved with the introduction of clearer pathways for talented players, coaches, umpires and members.  The strategy will provide volunteers with guidance as well as some succession planning as they assist HV in the implementation process.

In order to achieve the HV Development Strategies key outcomes, the Zone restructure is based on geographic locations.

The new HV Development strategy will standardise the operational processes in each Zone, ensuring consistent administration, budgets and structure to the development of the game across Victoria.

A structured committee for each Zone will be appointed with Hockey Victoria support.  Calls for expressions of interest for Zone coordinators will commence in late August 2009.

In 2010 there will be 10 Zones across Victoria (6 Metro and 4 Regional).  Hockey Victoria acknowledges there may be challenges with the new Zone structure, these include:

• Varying strengths of zones in the initial stages in relation to volunteers, coaches, umpires and players
• Various experience in administrative personnel
• Varying differences in locations, facilities and geographical size of zones

HV recognises that change can be difficult and aim to work in partnership with all Zones to achieve the long term success. HV will develop support structures for Zones in order to address these challenges.

HV looks forward to working with all Victorian hockey members in the implementation of the new strategy in 2009 and beyond.
